Starting in 2018, FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), manufacturer of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Fiat brands, limited access to its OBD port through the Security Gateway Module (SGW) security system.

Other manufacturers that started using SGW are Nissan from 2021 models and later.

Due to the new requirement, only registered and certified scanners will be able to access the OBD ports of vehicles produced in 2018 for FCA and 2021 for Nissan.

Devices such as Launch and Autel, among others, already have this technology and can therefore be registered and connected via SGW.

Functions when acquiring access (SGW).

• Clear continuous and pending DTCs.
• All actuator and memory functions such as: calibrations, learning and actuator testing.

Not having this license will limit access, so we highly recommend obtaining access to it if you continually work with these vehicle brands.

Currently there is another method by which we can have access to diagnose these systems is through a bridge that is usually found on the dashboard of vehicles and requires a special two-prong 12 + 8 pin connector but It will all depend on the vehicle we are working on.
